Artist Statement
Letitia taught herself to sew at a very early age. It quickly became a passion and one that has led to some very long lasting friendships and creative collaborations.
She is drawn to the tactile experience of working with fabric and over time, has moved from dressmaking to quilting, soft furnishing and is now on a voyage of discovery, exploring how textiles can be manipulated with stitch, embellishment, paint and dye. Letitia describes this as a liberating experience; the freedom to experiment with technique, developing new forms and processes has been her most rewarding phase so far.
Her inspiration comes from our diverse world, the expanding opportunities to travel and experience different cultures, peoples, seasons and landscapes.
Letitia’s journey has allowed her to not only achieve formal qualifications, through the City & Guilds but has also attended workshops with celebrated textile artists who have undoubtedly influenced the work she is now creating.
