Artist Statement
Ruth Peel has spent a lifetime working in stitch and textiles exploring innovative ways of using materials and techniques to depict her themes. They are often an amalgamation of drawing, painting, printing, photography, stitch and Photoshop.
She is interested in creating pieces that can be unsettling and perplexing concerning the unconscious and the surreal. She uses unusual juxtapositions that are visual metaphors that attempt to explore an idea or theme.
Currently she is working with ideas relating to landscapes, seascapes and journeys, to create an undercurrent that gives the work an ambivalent element.
