Artist Statement
Vanessa has been interested in sewing since her late teens and attended dressmaking classes at Eastleigh College when her daughter was small as did her mother before her.
She is a keen amateur photographer, loves to travel, enjoys walking and always has a camera ready to record what interests her. Vanessa is particularly inspired by nature which features regularly in her work. Finding patterns in the most unusual places she is often excited by things which others would ignore.
Using her photographs as source material for her pieces, Vanessa works with a variety of materials including paper. Having a particular interest in surface design, she uses printing and painting techniques and then embellishes with hand and/or machine embroidery.
